Project description
The “Energy, Equity, Equality” (E3) project promotes social justice in the energy transition. Recent studies show that key technologies such as smart homes, electromobility and energy communities are predominantly used by a specific demographic group (male, over 35, white) and that not all people are the target group of the energy transition. It would be crucial to involve users in technology development at an early stage and take the needs of society as a whole into account.
E3 investigates how marginalized groups are excluded from key enabling technologies. Barriers to technology adoption and use are identified and it is examined whether and to what extent key technologies can be designed to be socially equitable. The key requirements for future inclusive solutions are summarized in a specification sheet.
The results support technology providers and decision-makers in developing energy solutions that involve previously neglected target groups and thus create new market opportunities. Users benefit from clear recommendations for action, greater participation and easier access to sustainable technologies.
