Project description

The city of Judenburg is one of the sustainability pioneers in Austria and has been continuously implementing climate protection measures for more than 30 years. As part of this project, a climate neutrality roadmap is being developed that represents a targeted work program for the coming years and decades.

The objectives include

  • The numerous mission statements, studies and findings from previous projects as well as existing guiding principles (e.g. city of short distances, development into a digital municipality, etc.) have been brought together in a holistic vision for climate neutrality and gaps in content have been closed.
  • The internal organization of the administration and the topic of communication to stakeholders and the population are prepared for the implementation of the measures.
  • An overarching roadmap with short, medium and long-term target horizons and concrete implementation measures for the areas of buildings & facilities, supply and disposal, mobility, urban development and spatial planning as well as recommendations for action for trade and industry is available.
  • Judenburg is perceived as a pioneering city in the context of a “climate-neutral city” and there is an ongoing exchange with other cities at regional and national level.

Methods:

  • Preparation, analysis and consolidation as well as impact evaluation of all already implemented and ongoing activities relevant to the topic.
  • Involvement of actors already active in the field of climate protection and climate change adaptation as well as participation of other relevant stakeholders, especially from the industrial and commercial sector.
  • The development of the vision, which is integrated into the mission statement, is based on the experience gained from the creation of the mission statement of the city of Judenburg.
  • Development and establishment of a monitoring and evaluation concept to measure and assess the progress of the implementation measures.
