Project description

The city of Köflach, once characterized by lignite mining and the glass industry, has undergone significant structural change in recent decades. With the end of lignite mining, the development towards a new regional identity began. Köflach wants to work towards climate neutrality with consistent measures. These include climate change-adapted housing and a climate-neutral energy supply. At the same time, the aim is to strengthen tourist destinations known beyond the region.

To achieve these goals, a Climate Neutrality Roadmap with a time horizon of 2040 is being developed, which defines concrete goals and measures in the areas of energy, mobility, buildings and urban development.

The city focuses on energy efficiency, savings and renewable energies, with Stadtwerke Köflach playing a key role. Regional mobility is to be made sustainable through the expansion of public transport, a focus on cycling and walking and the implementation of a smart e-charging infrastructure.

In terms of urban development, the focus will be on energy-efficient public buildings and greening projects to improve the quality of life and combat the effects of climate change.
